Elysium – Extended Trailer

The extended trailer for Neil Blomkamp’s Sci-Fi action film, Elysium.

Elysium stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga, and William Fitchner. Opening in theaters August 9th.

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

SDCC 2013 – Game of Thrones

The Game of Thrones panel started off with a cool memorial video:

Then once the panel got started an old friend stopped by quick at the 14:30 mark.

A quick summary from YahooTV:

  • When asked if he’d consider writing a “Game of Thrones” prequel, author George R.R. Martin told the audience that he is open to writing more novels set in the world of Westeros after he completes the main series, but it wouldn’t write about any characters from the current books or TV show. “I don’t think it would be a prequel. I might go further back. There’s lots of material. I just don’t think I’ll do the immediate precursor,” Martin said.
  • A never-seen-before deleted scene was featured with Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) and Grand Maester Pycelle (Julian Glover). The clip opens with Tywin enjoying his “time of leisure” fishing. Pycelle asks Tywin if he could be returned to the small council, and all signs of Pycelle’s frailty disappears as he stands up straight and speaks in a full-throated voice. Despite Pycelle’s transformation, Tywin sends the old man, who is once again stooped over and stuttering, home with instructions to clean the fish he caught.
  • Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) on if he’s read any of Martin’s books: “In four or five years when all of this is over, I want to go back and read all of the books.”
  • Dinklage on his many intense father-son scenes with Dance: “After each of those scenes, [Charles] comes up to give me a nice little shoulder rub after each take.”
  • Kit Harrington on Jon Snow becoming a man next season: “Jon is always looking for these paternal figures. What’s interesting, coming up, he becomes one of those types of figures.”
  • Rose Leslie what’s next for Ygritte and Jon Snow: “I’m going to hunt him down and I’m going to hurt him.”
  • Emilia Clarke on how she found out about her Emmy nomination: “My alarm clock went off really early in the hotel and when I was going to turn it off, I realized I had missed three phone calls from HBO so I knew something was up.”
  • John Bradley on his character, Samwell Tarly: “I think Sam has always been the hero. It’s braver sometimes to absorb punishment.”
  • Richard Madden on his Robb Stark’s unexpected demise: “You never know what’s coming. As an actor, you commit to something and then you get hit with a curveball.”
  • Michelle Fairley on Catelyn Stark’s death: “I’d signed up for three seasons, so I knew what was coming.”
  • Martin on killing off so many of beloved characters: “I have many characters, so killing a few, there’s always more and plenty of actors to give work to.”
  • Showrunner David Benioff on filming the Red Wedding Episode: “We have a tough crew in Belfast, but at the end of shooting the Red Wedding, they were all crying.”
  • Showrunner D.B. Weiss on keeping plotlines secret: “The first season was kind of a test case. When nobody spoiled the story of Ned Stark, I realized we were dealing with a really good group.”

SDCC 2013 – Thor 2 Panel

The San Diego Comic Con panel for Thor 2 gets interrupted by a surprise guest:

Tom Hiddleston has done an incredible job with the Loki character. He genuinely seems to enjoy playing the character, which just makes his performance even that much more fun to watch. Can’t wait to see him the the Thor sequel and who knows where else he might show up in the Marvel movie universe going forward.

SDCC 2013 – DC Collectibles

Our friends over at MWCToys have posted some photos from the DC Collectibles booth at San Diego Comic Con.

While all of the previously solicited statues from the Bombshells line are shown, the reveal of the upcoming Black Canary looks to be another great addition to this line.
DC Black Canary

From the Batman Black & White line is the New 52 version of the Joker. While I’d love to see some other villains added to this line, this version of the Joker is one I’m definitely adding to my collection.

The Cover Girls line continues with this really impressive looking version of fan favorite Batwoman.

SDCC 2013 – Gentle Giant

Some more great photos from out friends over at MWCToys. This time from the Gentle Giant booth.

Gentle Giant has been really hitting some homeruns with their sculpts lately. Between their Sucker Punch line, which everyone has praised, and the Marvel Comics license GG has put out some impressive collectibles.

Last year Gentle Giant had shown their independently created line of Honey Trap statues, which fans couldn’t wait to see. They were sort of a cross between the Sucker Punch girls (in terms of look, scale and details) and something along the lines of James Bond type villains. Fast forward a year and the first of this line, Whisper, has only recently gone up for pre-order.

GG Whisper

The reveal that was most surprising (and welcome) was that Gentle Giant will be producing a line of quarter (1:4) scale statues based off of The Walking Dead television series. While Gentle Giant has put up a number of impressive looking mini-busts for pre-order based off of the TV series, these 1:4 scale statues are really something to look at. If the quality is up to par with what Gentle Giant did with the Sucker Punch line, and from the preview pictures it appear they will be, this is a line that should do very well with the fans.

The first three to be shown are Daryl Dixon, Michonne and a zombie version of Merle Dixon.

SDCC 2013 – Kotobukiya

Our friends at MWCToys have been taking some beautiful pictures at San Diego Comic Con. for the full set, please click the link: Kotobukiya

My early favorites from what they have shown are the very impressive Juggernaut statue, sculpted by Erik Sosa.

Koto Juggs

The Avengers Hulk 1/10th ARTFX Statue, based off of the designs by Adi Granov. These are supposed to be in scale with the DC line that has been off to a great start. I collect a lot of the Eaglemoss figurines as between the Marvel and DC lines there is a huge selection of characters. This new line from Kotobukiya looks like it’s going to be pretty similar with the choice of characters, so being able to mix and match who i want from the two comic universes (in scale) is going to be awesome!!!
